About Us

Liv For A Cure, is a 501(c)(3) 01-0735448 not for profit organization was founded to help over 40,000 children and young adults in the United States afflicted with Cystic Fibrosis (CF). This foundation is working with the Cystic Fibrosis Center at Lurie Children’s Hospital to provide funding for research in hope of finding a cure and to provide a better quality of life while they fight this disease.

It became personal when the Tomassetti's daughter Olivia was diagnosed in utero and doctors found a bowel obstruction. Olivia began life with a 5-hour surgery where they detected Cystic Fibrosis. Since then she has had many hospitalizations for chronic lung and pancreas problems.

Over twenty years after Liv For A Cure foundation was started, Kellie and Alex Eppel welcomed the birth of their son, Louis Eppel. The joy of having their first child was quickly replaced with fear of the unknown when they learned their son was diagnosed with CF. Lisa, having been a family friend to the Eppel’s for many years, quickly swooped in with knowledge and resources she had from fighting this fight with her daughter for more than two decades. 

Together, the Tomassetti and Eppel families are on a mission to ensure their children live long, healthy lives. Through the funds we raise, we are waging a valiant fight against CF. Our foundation conducts fundraising activities that will aid the foundation in its support for research and development. Today new treatments are available to improve the length and quality of life for 90% of the CF population. Unfortunately, Liv and Louis are not eligible for those treatments, because of their rare CF genetic mutations..
